How we check prices

Next to every price on Glossumi you'll find a Price Check. It tells you where the price stands today, compared with the lowest price we recorded ourselves in the 30 days before. That's our own reading, not a statement from the store.

What we measure

  • Once a day per offer. An offer is one product in one size or shade at one store. If we read the price several times in one day, the lowest reading of that day counts.
  • The price belongs to the variant. A cream in 50 ml (1.7 fl oz) and the same cream in 100 ml (3.4 fl oz) are two offers, each with its own price history.
  • Where the prices come from: from the product data that stores provide to their affiliate partners, and for Amazon from Amazon's affiliate interface. If a store doesn't supply data yet, our editors read the price on the store's page and note the date.

Our 30-day low

The "lowest price we recorded in the last 30 days" only appears once we have readings from at least 7 days. Today counts. Until then, you'll see "Price Check after 7 days of readings" and how many days are still to go.

We always tell you on how many days we took a reading, and for a price low, since when.

Price low

A price low means that today's price is below our own 30-day low. We only call it that when three things are true at the same time:

  1. Today's price is below the lowest price we recorded in the 30 days before.
  2. It is at least 5% below the median of the daily lowest prices over those 30 days. That way a single upward outlier doesn't count as a saving.
  3. We have readings from at least 14 days.

We calculate the percentage only against our 30-day low, never against a crossed-out price or a list price. An example: our 30-day low was $41.90, and today the product costs $39.95. That's 5% below our 30-day low.

A price low only tells you what we measured. It does not mean the store cut the price.

Sale, per the store

When a store itself marks a product as a promotion, we write "Sale, per the store" and add where the price stands in our records: at our 30-day low or above it. We don't copy crossed-out prices from stores.

Unit price

When we know the contents, we show the price per fluid ounce or per ounce. For packs under 0.34 fl oz or 0.35 oz we leave it out, because at that size it tells you nothing useful. The unit price is a service for you: it lets you compare sizes and stores at a glance.

Order

  • On a product page, the cheapest offer in stock is at the top, with the other stores below, sorted by price.
  • In lists we sort by Price Check: price lows first, by the size of the saving, then sales per the store, then by price. You can also sort by price or by newest.
  • A store's commission plays no part in the order.

Good to know

  • Prices change. What counts is the price the store shows you when you buy.
  • Shipping costs and sales tax are not included.
  • Glossumi doesn't sell anything. You buy directly from the store.

Ads

Links and buttons to stores are marked "Ad*". If you buy through one of them, we earn a commission. Your price stays the same. You can read more in our Affiliate Disclosure.
