Affiliate Disclosure

Glossumi is free for you. It's paid for by stores that give us a commission when you buy something through our links. This page explains how that works, how you can spot ads on Glossumi and what stays independent of the money.

The short version

  • Links and buttons to stores where we can earn money carry the word Ad and an asterisk (*).
  • Your price doesn't change because of it.
  • Which products we show, and in what order, never depends on whether a store pays a commission or how much.
  • We don't get hands-on with the products: we don't try them out ourselves and we don't send them to a lab. Our information comes from manufacturers, from stores and from our own price records.
  • Glossumi doesn't sell anything. You always buy directly from the store, on its terms.

How Glossumi makes money

We take part in affiliate programs. On this edition, that is currently the Amazon Associates Program. When we join programs of other US stores, for example through the affiliate network Awin, we add them to the list below. When you go to a store through one of our links and buy something there within a certain time, the store pays us a commission. Each program sets its own rate. Usually it's a percentage of the order value.

Your price doesn't change because of it. The store pays the commission, not you.

There are currently no paid placements, sponsored posts or brand partnerships on Glossumi. If that changes, we'll label such content as "Ad" right on the post and name the brand that paid for it.

What "Ad" and the asterisk mean

Every button and every link that can earn us a commission is marked Ad with an asterisk (*). The label sits right on the button or link, before you click. Every page with such links also carries this explanation:

*Ad: If you buy through a link marked "Ad*", we earn a commission. Your price does not change, and the order never depends on the commission. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Every button also shows which store it leads to. Technically, these links are marked as sponsored (rel="sponsored").

Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Our affiliate programs

We keep this list up to date. It names every program through which we can earn a commission on this edition.

What stays independent of the commission

Selection and order. Whether a product appears in a list, a ranking, the Club-Deals or the deal of the day, and in which position, is decided by fixed criteria. Whether a store pays a commission, and how much, plays no part. You can't buy a placement on Glossumi.

Which stores we cover. We only read prices from stores whose product data we can fetch regularly. At the moment these are mostly stores we work with through an affiliate program. So Glossumi isn't a complete overview of every offer on the market, and a product may be cheaper elsewhere.

Our ratings. Rankings and ratings in Beauty Tech are based only on the manufacturers' technical specs and on prices. We explain which features we use and how much weight each one has on our methodology pages, which are linked from every list and every ranking:

  • How we check prices: in lists, price lows come first, sorted by the size of the saving, then sales per the store, then everything else by price.
  • How the Spec Index works: five criteria per device category with fixed weights, only from manufacturer data. A device needs at least 70% data coverage to be ranked. Ties go to the higher data coverage, then the lower price.
  • How we build sets: our editors pick the items by color, occasion and how they work together; the newest sets come first.

We don't try anything out. We haven't tried the products ourselves and haven't had them examined in a lab. That's why we call our pages comparisons, ratings or Price Checks, and we don't award seals or prizes.

How we read prices

We fetch prices at least once a day from the affiliate networks' product data and from the stores' interfaces, and we save them. That's where our price information comes from:

  • Lowest price we recorded in the last 30 days. This is our own reading, not a statement from the store. We always add the date and on how many days in that period we recorded a price.
  • Price low. The price has dropped below the lowest price we recorded in the previous 30 days. A price low only tells you about our readings, not whether the store cut the price.
  • Sale, per the store. We only use this for promotions a store announces itself, for example through the affiliate network or on its website.
  • Percentages always refer to the lowest price we recorded in the previous 30 days. We don't copy stores' crossed-out prices or list prices.
  • Unit price. Where we can, we show the price per fluid ounce or per ounce. For packs under 0.34 fl oz or 0.35 oz we leave it out.

The price can change between our last reading and your visit to the store. What counts is always the price the store shows you when you buy. How we measure, and what exactly counts as a price low, is explained under Price Check.

Customer reviews

You can't write your own reviews on Glossumi, and we don't publish readers' personal accounts. We don't show star ratings or reviews from stores either.

Certificate filter

In beauty, you can filter by certificates from independent bodies: COSMOS, NATRUE, BDIH and Ecocert. We don't award seals or symbols of our own for this. On the product page we name the certificate and link to the certification body's database.

  • Method: a product appears in the filter once our editors have found its entry in the certification body's database.
  • Which products: only products in our catalog, that is, from the stores whose data we fetch (see above).
  • How current: we show the date of our last check with the product.

The full description is under How the natural cosmetics filter works.

Discount codes

We only publish discount codes when the store's affiliate program allows sites like ours to use them. We get them through the affiliate network's interface, for example Awin's. With every code we list the conditions the store gives us, such as a minimum order value, the validity period and excluded brands.

Whether a code works is up to the store alone. A code can end early or be used up. Orders with a discount code can also earn us a commission.

Sets

Our sets are suggestions from our editors: products that go well together, for example as a gift, sometimes with matching packaging that is itself a product from a store. Glossumi doesn't assemble, pack or ship any sets.

  • You buy each product from its store, at that store's prices and on its terms, with its shipping and return policy.
  • For sets with products from Amazon, one button puts all products in your Amazon cart. You decide there whether to order.
  • For sets from several stores, there's one button per store. The total shown is the sum of our latest price readings and can differ from the actual price.
  • We may earn a commission on every product you buy through our links. That's why these buttons are marked "Ad" too.

Free products and invitations

So far no brand has given us free products or invited us to events. If that changes, we'll say so on every post connected with it. It will have no influence on selection, order or rating.

Legal background

This page and the label on every link are meant to make advertising clearly recognizable, as the US Federal Trade Commission expects in its Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255): we tell you in plain words, right next to the link and before you click, that we may earn money from it. The page also explains how our rankings and ratings work. The Amazon sentence above is required by the Amazon Associates Program Operating Agreement.
