How the natural cosmetics filter works

In beauty, you can filter by "With a natural cosmetics certificate". The filter only shows products that an independent certification body has certified. We don't award any seals, symbols or verdicts of our own on how natural a product is.

Which certificates count

We only include certificates from bodies that check products against a published standard and list their certified products in a public database:

  • COSMOS, a shared European standard that Ecocert and BDIH, among others, certify against,
  • NATRUE,
  • BDIH,
  • Ecocert.

When a product appears in the filter

A product only appears in the filter once our editors have found its entry in the certification body's database. A claim on the packaging or in a store's data isn't enough on its own.

On the product page we name the certificate and the body that awards it, and link directly to the entry in its database. You can check it there yourself. The date of our last check is shown as well.

What we don't do

  • We don't award our own environmental or nature symbols, and we don't rate products ourselves.
  • We don't make general environmental claims. What a certificate means is set only by the certification body's standard; you'll find the details on its website.
  • A certificate says nothing about how well a product suits your skin.

Ads

Buttons to stores are marked "Ad*". Whether a product has a certificate has nothing to do with whether we earn money from it. You can read more in our Affiliate Disclosure.
