Beauty Advent Calendars 2026: How to Choose, From Makeup to Nails
Beauty advent calendar season starts long before December. The 2026 calendars are out, and if you've been eyeing one for yourself or want to surprise someone, now is a good time to look, because popular calendars often sell out early. This guide walks you through the choice: how many doors, makeup or skincare, minis or full sizes, who it's for and when to buy. Our overview of beauty advent calendars 2026 lists all 8 branded calendars we found on amazon.com, sorted by what's inside.
What a beauty advent calendar is
A beauty advent calendar counts down to Christmas with a small beauty surprise behind every door: depending on the brand, that might be a lipstick, a face mask, a nail polish or a hand cream. Many brands bring out a new edition every year. As a gift, it's a present that keeps going all through December. For yourself, it's an easy way to try a brand or a product you wouldn't normally pick up.
How to choose a beauty advent calendar
12, 24 or 31 doors?
The classic has 24 doors, one for every day from December 1 to Christmas Eve. A 12-door calendar is a shorter countdown, for the last twelve days before Christmas or as a smaller gift. With 31 doors, the countdown runs all the way to New Year's Eve. More doors doesn't automatically mean more product, though: twelve larger items can add up to more than twenty-four tiny ones, so look at the sizes, not just the number.
In our US overview, three listings state 24 in their title: e.l.f. (Express Your e.l.f. 2026 Beauty Advent Calendar, 24 days), Revolution (24-Day Advent Beauty Calendar 2026) and L'Occitane (Classic Advent Calendar, 24 pieces). Two state 12: ChapStick's 2026 Countdown Advent Calendar with 12 lip balms and Kitsch's Holiday Advent Calendar 2026 with 12 days. None of the eight names 31 doors. For three calendars, the title gives no number at all: Catrice House of Gold, The Body Shop Advent Calendar Gift Set and Manucurist. Check their listings for the number of doors before you buy.
Makeup, skincare or a mix?
This is the biggest choice, and our overview page sorts the calendars the same way:
- Makeup: for someone who wears makeup every day or loves trying new looks. If you're after a makeup advent calendar for 2026, Catrice (House of Gold) and Revolution are the two in this group.
- Makeup and skincare: a bit of both, for someone who likes variety. In our US list, that's e.l.f.
- Skincare, bath and body: a good fit for someone whose favorite part of the day is her evening routine, and a safer choice when you don't know her makeup shades. ChapStick, Kitsch, L'Occitane and The Body Shop are in this group.
- Nails: for the friend who changes her polish every week. Manucurist's calendar names nail polish and nail care in its title.
- Fragrance: our US overview has no fragrance calendar right now.
Minis or full sizes?
Many beauty advent calendars mix minis (travel sizes) with a few full sizes, and the share varies a lot from one calendar to the next. Minis are handy for trying something new or for your travel bag; full sizes last longer. None of the eight titles in our US list says "full-size", so the contents list on the listing is where you find out. Before you buy, look for the list of what's inside and the size of each product. If a listing shows no contents at all, it's worth digging a little further before you decide.
Buying for someone who loves surprises? Read the contents list yourself and keep the secret.
Who is it for?
Choose by what she uses every day, not by the prettiest box. Does she wear makeup daily, or only on weekends? Is her bathroom shelf full of skincare and body care? Does she paint her nails herself? If you share a bathroom with her, one look tells you a lot. When you're unsure about her shades, a calendar from the skincare, bath and body group is often the easier pick: fewer colors to get wrong.
If the calendar is for you, think about what you'll actually use up. A calendar full of products that end up in a drawer is no fun, however pretty the box. And if it's a gift, hand it over before December 1, so she can open the first door on day one.
When to buy
Beauty advent calendars usually arrive in stores in the fall, and popular ones often sell out early, sometimes well before December. If you've settled on one, don't leave it until the last week of November. We read the listings in our overview on October 22, 2026; the store shows whether a calendar is still in stock.
